Foundations
Hindustani classical music came first. He began formal lessons at about ten, and a SPICMACAY gurukul scholarship later took him to study with Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar, the dhrupad master.
That training still shows — in the devotional pieces he sings today and in the control he brings to a Garba set that runs for hours.
Television · late 1990s
National audiences first heard him on Zee’s Sa Re Ga Ma, where he finished as a runner-up.
Years later he came back to the format from the other side — as host of the show on the Gujarati channel Alpha Gujarati.
Hindi film · 2002 onward
His film work began in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas. Bhansali’s Saawariya followed, and with it his first lead playback credit. More films came after — Heroes, Kisaan, Vaada Raha, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster.
He sang on the first season of Coke Studio @ MTV and is among the voices of the national-unity song Phir Mile Sur Mera Tumhara.

Gujarati cinema
In Gujarati film, “Aasmani” and the title song of Thai Jashe! made his name with a new generation of listeners. Golkeri gave him “Soni Gujarat Ni”, Kutch Express “Mangamta Divso”.
Outside film, “Raja Ne Rani” — a duet with Manasi Parekh — has passed fourteen million views on YouTube.
Producer · Soul Sutra
With actor-producer Manasi Parekh, his wife and creative partner, he co-founded Soul Sutra. Its Gujarati films include Golkeri (2020), Kutch Express (2023), Jhamkudi and Shubhchintak (2025).
Kutch Express won the 70th National Film Award for Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values.
Navratri · Mumbai
Each Navratri he leads Rangilo Re at the NESCO Centre in Goregaon — a Garba festival he has fronted since at least 2017, with guest artists joining him on stage.
The season also travels: his Garba nights have played in the US and Canada, from New Jersey and Georgia to Ottawa.
